Type of intervention
iven the constraints of maintaining the building area, only 35 m2, and the façades, the house was rebuilt on the basis of the existing one. However, the design concept was to maintain a compromise between the old and the contemporary, both in construction techniques and in architectural details. The choice to use natural materials and construction technologies based on traditional techniques had an influence on the architecture and was considered from the beginning of the project.
In this way, it was possible to build with walls of reduced thickness, but maintaining good performance. The wooden structure and “taipa de fasquio” are still present, but in a more contemporary way. The use of lightweight industrial hempcrete, selected for its excellent thermal and acoustic comfort, has a strong presence in the house, remaining visible on some walls and in the ceiling cladding.
Natura Matéria acted as a kind of “coaching” in natural construction, facilitating the design of construction details, interconnection with specialities, procurement of materials, preparation of hemp concrete on site and monitoring of the entire construction.
List of some of the materials used:
- Wooden structure with hemp concrete (lime with industrial hempcrete and cellulose fibres).
- Waste from the textile and cellulose industry.
- Traditional lime mortars in paste and plaster.
- Traditional oils and varnishes produced on site.
- Cork agglomerate.
