Type of intervention
This project, due to its social characteristics and because it uses hemp concrete, is certainly unique in Portugal. The social house project is run by Maria and Gil and is located in Vila Chã, Esposende, with the support of Esposende Solidário Espo Municipality Portugal Inovação Social.
@naturamateria joined this social project with @criticalconcrete, supplying the raw materials and technical consultancy, design and execution support.
It took just three weeks to build 107 square metres of 25 cm thick walls and 142 square metres of 18 cm thick roofing. Two workshop days were held during the work.
You should know that hempcrete, as well as helping to reduce C02 emissions, has excellent hygrothermal performance.
A hempcrete wall about 25 cm thick, with a density of 315 kg/m3 and a wooden structure has the following properties: U-value: 0.282 W/(m²K), sd: 1.6 m, Thermal lag: 16 h, Heat accumulation capacity: 73 kJ/m²C (20 Wh/m²C).
