Development
The aim of the training was to acquire basic knowledge about hempcrete, its properties and potential for use in construction. During the practical, prefabricated wooden panels were made and moulded, filled with a mixture of hemp shavings, lime and clay.
Faced with the reality that the majority of building materials used to achieve good levels of energy efficiency:
- are derived from petrochemicals, which are dangerous, toxic, polluting and non-biodegradable;
- depend on adhesives, sealants and membranes that are synthetic, toxic, aggravate health problems and make dismantling almost impossible;
- most of the materials and resources used in construction are non-renewable;
- most building materials use significant amounts of energy in their production.
Hempcrete is considered an alternative material for bio-construction due to its unique characteristics.
